2020 PLAYOFFS – NATIONAL LEAGUE – LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Hoboken_ZephyrsClockwork Heros

Hoboken Zephyrs @ Clockwork Heros
Series Preview: Two of the best pitching teams in the league go at it. Clockwork had more depth but Hoboken has even higher grade A starters. Clockworks hitting is a little better but in a short series, depth doesn’t mean much… Vegas says this one going 7 and it’s even money. Joel and I tried all day to connect on Zoom but could not match up. So I gave up and played traditional micros.
Game #1: Blyleven did not have it as Hoboken hit him for 4 runs in 4 plus innings as Collins Stanky and Heath came through. Hahn was great for Hoboken and shutdown the Heros to just 3 hits. 4-0 Hoboken
Game #2: Faber gives up 3 runs early Arky Vaughn and Terry drive in runs. With CY Young-winning Matheson on the mound, it’s over as he allows 5 singles and doubles in the 3-0 Clockwork win. On a nightmare note, Eddie Stanky gets hurt for 11 days so likely Stirweiss gets the call at 2B for Hoboken
Game #3: Jered Weaver was strong holding the Clockwork offense to just two earned runs in a complete-game victory. Weaver ran his playoff record to 3-0, 3.00era. Jim Bottomley led the Hoboken attack with 3 hits along with Jeff Heath and Stan Spence each chipping in two hits. George Foster was the Hero leader with two hits including a double and an RBI.
Hoboken 3 Clockwork 2
Game #4: The Clockwork offense was running on all cylinders in Game 4. Bill Terry started the scoring with a 3-run triple in the 1st frame. The game was tied at 4 heading into the 8th inning when Bill Bradley touched off a clutch grand slam to double the Hero lead. Arky Vaughan doubled and homered scoring three times while driving in two. Lenny Dykstra also provided 3 hits in the leadoff slot. Bert Blyleven earned his third postseason win in a solid outing.
Clockwork 10 Hoboken 4
Game #5: The Clockwork offense remained red hot scoring 9 runs; led by two-run blasts by George Foster and Davey Lopes. Cy Young winner, Christy Mathewson, was brilliant holding the Zephyrs to just one earned run on three hits. Mathewson also chipped in two RBIs while earning his fourth playoff win.
Clockwork 9 Hoboken 1The Clockwork offense dominated Hoboken’s top two pitchers scoring 19 runs in Games 4 & 5. The Hoboken club is
Game #6: Clockwork bats woke up in games 4 and 5 in Hoboken as Clockwork was up 3 games to 2 heading home. Hoboken sent Seaver and Clockwork big three are tired so Uhle got the call he’s an 18 and threw a no-hitter this year, so Hero depth came up in the NL LCS.

Seaver did not have his best stuff as Clockwork bats got 8 hits and 4 runs off the Hall of Famer in 6 innings including an Arky Vaughn homer, Terry drove in 2 as well. Lopes hit a homer off Derringer and Clockwork scored 6 runs. On the other side yikes. Uhle had a no-hitter into the 8th, Duncan broke it up. In the 9th Yost walked and health double him in by Tekulve got Spence as Clockwork won 6-1

Series Summary: Clockwork bats were better than Hoboken and they came through in games 4, 5, and 6. Hero fans will be hoping the bats stay hot in the world series. Joels Zephyrs had a great year and that starting pitching was amazing. Heath was their best hitter at .298 in the playoffs but it wasn’t enough.
Series MVP Matheson 2-0 with 1 run in 17 innings for Clockwork,
